Success Stories

Witnessing clients succeed is the most rewarding part of our work!

SELF’s clients prove themselves time and time again to be extraordinary, even in the face of crisis and uncertainty. These hard-working individuals remain dedicated and focused on life goals to become more self-sufficient. SELF helps along the way with one-on-one guidance, its proven programs, and support services which include breaking goals down into more manageable steps.

Getting Ahead: Meet Kara

Before signing up for Getting Ahead, Kara was working two jobs to make ends meet. This program not only gave her important knowledge and allowed her to learn new life skills, but she also gained the confidence to apply for a job she never thought she could get — she was then able to earn more income than ever and improve her life drastically!

Chelsea enrolled in the IDA program, with the goal of buying a home for herself and her unborn daughter, after being inspired by her mother who purchased a home through the same program.

Chelsea proved to be a highly motivated client, wishing to have a positive environment to raise her daughter. She only missed one class during the seven-week program to work overtime. The program facilitator was impressed with Chelsea’s use of program tools and discussions to improve her finances and credit score.

Before her daughter’s birth in October of 2017, Chelsea was able to purchase a home in September. She persevered through the program and changed her and her daughter’s life for the better.

JOBS NOW!: Meet Jennifer

Jennifer enrolled in JOBS NOW! after being out of the workforce for 8 years to care for her son with special needs. Through her hard work and the skills she learned through this program, she has since been able to improve life for herself and her son.

Microenterprise and Microloan: Meet Charles and Umona

Charles and Umona Sharp both graduated from SELF’s Microenterprise and Microloan program with new knowledge necessary to succeed with their professional painting business. Upon graduating, Charles applied for and received a microloan which he used to brand his work van! Now Sharp Pro Painting is more visible and successful than ever.
