SELF has been invited to offer the Getting Ahead in a Just Gettin’-by World workshop during Faith Community UMC’s Stepping Forward program. Now, every Tuesday evening, participants can engage in the life-changing Getting Ahead workshop in addition to the wide array of other services offered at Stepping Forward.

What’s Getting Ahead?
Getting Ahead is a powerful program based on Ruby Payne’s “Bridges Out of Poverty” framework. Through this workshop, participants receive practical tools and strategies to build their financial, emotional, and social assets. Participants identify their own strengths, learn the hidden rules of economic class, and create actionable plans to achieve long-term self-sufficiency.

SELF is passionate about this program because it truly transforms lives. Participants co-investigate their barriers to success and work together to create brighter futures.

A Diverse Group of Participants
One of the most exciting things about this current session is the diversity of the group. The weekly participants are parents, singles, and people from all walks of life. There is a 60-year age range between the youngest and oldest group member! This diversity is crucial because everyone brings their own unique experiences and goals to the table, making the discussions richer and more impactful for everyone involved.

Every Tuesday, Faith Community UMC’s Stepping Forward offers a free community dinner, life skill classes for adults, and children’s programming. This environment provides a blend of practical support and community connection that aligns well with SELF’s Getting Ahead workshop.
