As part of SELF’s year-round Neighbors Who Care: Home Repair Program, the annual home repair “blitz week” called Group Workcamps is an exciting and highly rewarding event for participants. In partnership with the national non-profit Group Cares, hundreds of student and adult volunteers converge in Butler County, Ohio each summer to donate their time and talent to help low-income residents in our community. This week-long blitz of critical maintenance and mobility modifications keeps residents safely in their homes by performing the necessary repairs for those not physically and financially able to do the work themselves. Volunteers help seniors age in place, house-bound residents regain their freedom and families focus on their long-term self-sufficiency goals in a safe environment.
Alternating each year between Middletown and Hamilton, Ohio, the Group Workcamps experience has been described as life-changing for both the residents and the volunteers.
